    Winehouse On Euro Summit
    March 27, 2008 - Global | Retail

Amy Winehouse's "Back To Black" (Universal Island) records its 12th aggregate week at No. 1 on European Top 100 Albums, as Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love" (Syco Music/Sony BMG) celebrates its climb to the Billboard Hot 100 summit by regaining the top spot on Eurochart Hot 100 Singles.

Winehouse falls 1-2 in Greece, but retains her crown in Germany, Austria and Holland, and remains in the top three in Portugal, Spain, Italy and Switzerland. Those sales and continuing European sales are enough to keep "Black" ahead of the composite chart's big new title of the week, British progressive rock band Muse's live set "Haarp" (Helium 3/Warner Bros.). Opening U.K. sales of 45,000 earn a No. 2 entry there, and the album enters at No. 3 in France, No. 4 in Holland and No. 5 in Italy, also climbing 11-3 and 7-4 in the Belgian regions of Flanders and Wallony respectively.

Longtime European favorite Bryan Adams returns to the countdown with "11" (Polydor/Universal), which enters at a collective No. 3. That's after a No. 1 debut in Switzerland, three runner-up starts, in Germany, Austria and Denmark, and arrivals at No. 4 in Portugal and No. 6 in the United Kingdom (on sales of 26,000). "11" is also up 4-2 in Flanders. The Canadian rocker's last studio album, "Room Service," debuted at No. 1 on Top 100 Albums in September 2004. Adams has Scandinavian dates booked for late May and early June and more European shows in late summer.

Lewis' "Spirit" album is down 3-4 on the pan-European chart, despite a 31-4 vault in Greece, and another British debut release, Duffy's "Rockferry" (A&M/Universal), holds at No. 5 overall. It debuts at No. 2 in Holland and climbs 39-3 in Denmark, and spends a third week atop the British chart, with total sales in that time of 364,000. However, the U.K.'s biggest-selling album of the week by a long distance is on the separate, far lower-profile compilations chart, on which "Now That's What I Call Music! 69" (EMI/Virgin/UMTV) arrives at No. 1 with sales of 382,000 -- the highest-ever weekly total in the near 25-year history of the series.

After four weeks at No. 2 on the pan-European chart, and one before that at No. 1, Michael Jackson's "Thriller: 25th Anniversary Edition" (Legacy/Epic) drops to No. 6. One Republic's "Dreaming Out Loud" (Interscope/Universal) dips to No. 7 after last week climbing 49-4. That's despite a 13-8 jump in Germany.

Three more new entries complete the European album top 10. Van Morrison's "Keep It Simple" (Exile/Polydor/Universal) starts at No. 8, four places higher than his country-themed "Pay the Devil" achieved in 2006. The new release opens at No. 10 in the United Kingdom, on sales of 19,000.

Mike Oldfield's classically-oriented "Music of the Spheres" (UCJ/Universal) sells 21,000 out of the box in the United Kingdom for a No. 9 start there and on Top 100 Albums. It's the multi-instrumentalist's first time in the U.K. album top 10 since "Tubular Bells III" reached No. 4 a decade ago. New at No. 10 on the pan-European survey is German hip-hop trio Fettes Brot's "Storm Und Drang" (Fettes Brot), after a No.3 debut in Germany.

"Bleeding Love" is in its third term atop the Eurochart, having flip-flopped between the top two positions since late February. A No. 1 debut in France and climbs of 7-3 in Italy and 5-4 in Holland help it back to the summit.

We are the sons and daughters of all the freedom fighters.
And there are still many rivers to cross.
Hands in the air, screaming loud and clear for freedom, justice and equality.
There is no black or white, there is only right and wrong.
We are unknown heros, we are flesh and we are blood.
    We are the great future.
We need to get back to the joy of living.
We are five fingers of an empty hand.
But together, we can also be the fist.
Sometimes change can be as simple as two hands reaching for one another.
    Clap your hands.
